Dear DACC Students and Families,
As the rain sets in, this is an excellent time to remind our student drivers of fall driver safety tips.
Autumn is the season with a beautiful spectrum of colorful foliage. It is also a time for carving pumpkins, getting lost in corn mazes, cheering on your football team, and building bonfires. However, this time of the year can create unique dangers on the road due to increased traffic and weather conditions transitioning in the fall. Being prepared and adjusting your driving habits is essential for driving safely in the months to come. Read more in this printable driver safety tip flyer.

DACC was founded in 1974, 50 years ago this year! This week 50 years ago, a news article from the Delaware Gazette headlined “JVS fights cold, construction.”
As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Delaware Area Career Center, it's important to reflect on the journey that has brought us to where we are today. From those early days in an unfinished building, where students and staff pushed through challenges like cold classrooms and ongoing construction, to the modern, innovative facilities we now call home, the dedication of our DACC community has always overcome obstacles and improved year after year. Here’s to 50 years of hard work, growth, and a shared vision for student success!
We want to inform you about an upcoming event at Delaware Area Career Center aimed at promoting the safety and well-being of our students.
From September 30 - October 7, DACC, in collaboration with HelpLine of Delaware & Morrow Counties, will be conducting suicide prevention and awareness training for students. The program, "Question. Persuade. Refer (QPR)," is evidence-based and focuses on equipping students with the knowledge to recognize signs of suicide risk in their peers. Additionally, it provides information on where to seek help when needed.
Our Student Services Department will also offer the "Say Something - Sandy Hook Promise" training. This program teaches students how to identify warning signs in individuals at risk of harming themselves or others and empowers them to speak up to a trusted adult.
In March 2021, the Ohio General Assembly passed House Bill 123, also known as the SAVE (Safety and Violence Education) Students Act. This legislation mandates that school districts annually provide evidence-based instruction on suicide prevention and awareness for grades 6-12.
During the 6 days in September, DACC students will participate in a single 45-minute training session scheduled during their lab time. Following each session, students will respond to a brief questionnaire that will assist school professionals in identifying at-risk students and providing the necessary help and support.
If you prefer that your student does not participate in the suicide prevention and awareness training, please complete this form. DACC will provide a supervised area for students not participating.
Our top priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, and we believe this training will help to foster a supportive and secure environment for everyone.
Willis Education Center is hosting an Internet Safety for Parents seminar with guest speaker Jesse Weinberger, a former programmer and nationally recognized speaker, on Thursday, October 3rd, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Please see the flyer for more information.
This event is for adults only and will cover topics such as:
Value vs risk of technology use
Parent complicity
Mental health impact
Cyberbullying
Explanations of popular apps
Extreme content and gaming
How to monitor, supervise, and what consequences are appropriate
DACC has an online school spirit store where you can purchase your favorite clothing items and accessories and have them delivered directly to your home. Most designs can be customized to include your lab name or our vision to empower, prepare, inspire, and connect all students.
If you've ever wanted to find out why your child enjoys coming to DACC every day, see for yourself what they experience and learn a little more about their career ambitions. In select programs, we are offering evening classes for adults, including:
Microsoft 365 Word - 10/08
Automotive Essentials - 10/15
Microsoft 365 PowerPoint - 10/22
Microsoft 365 Excel Basic - 11/7
Microsoft 365 Exel Intermediate - 12/03
New - Broadband Infrastructure Training Program

For the most up-to-date course offerings, visit the Adult Education website.
DACC will host an ASVAB test on Tuesday, October 22, at 8 AM for interested students.
Students should take the ASVAB for one of the following reasons and must sign up:
1. Career Testing: The ASVAB is known as one of the best career tests available.
2. Military: This is a required test for the military. DACC does not give testing results to branches. You can choose to do that after you review your scores.
3. The Ohio Honors Diploma: The state of Ohio is allowing students who are missing one of the requirements to now substitute one of the options with a qualifying ASVAB score! (ie. Substituting the ACT score or GPA). Register with the Google Form.
(Note: DACC does not supply the military with scores of the exam)
When DACC is delayed or canceled due to weather, you will receive instant alerts through the contact information you provided at registration. Alerts will be sent to you by email, phone call, and text message. If you download the DACC app, you will also receive a push notification on your phone.
In addition, notices will be posted to our website and social media accounts.
When you receive the delay or closure alert, make sure you know what to do by referencing our Delay & Closures page on our website. Many parents bookmark this page for future reference.
We would like to remind you that fees for the 2024-2025 school year are now due. You can check your fee balances on PowerSchool. Additionally, charges have been applied to the accounts of students who have received a new Chromebook. For more information, visit the fees webpage or reach out to Lilian Robinson at 740-203-2230 if you have any questions.
Full-Day Students Only
During Academic Hybrid Fridays, all DACC academic students will be expected to complete online assignments in lieu of attending academic classes on Fridays. This academic model emphasizes 21st-century workplace skills, empowers students to utilize technology, improves independence, and provides more opportunities to participate in work-based learning.
At the Delaware Area Career Center, we prioritize the well-being and academic success of our students. If a student feels unwell after they have already arrived on campus, we encourage them to visit the clinic, where our healthcare professional will provide care and support. In the event that a student needs to go home, we will personally contact a parent or guardian to arrange this. The student will then be able to leave directly from the clinic as soon as their ride arrives, streamlining the process for everyone.
We kindly ask that students refrain from directly contacting parents to pick them up during school hours. This approach ensures minimal disruption to classes and allows our teachers to maintain an effective learning environment. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this collaborative effort to support our students' health and education.
Regardless of the first day of school in your home district, transportation will be running from the home schools to DACC beginning August 14th.
If you know in advance that your child will be absent or tardy, fill out the Absence Form found on our website or the homepage of the DACC app.
See our Attendance FAQ for more information as well as calendars to all of our home schools and contact information for home school transportation departments.
At DACC, we are using Canvas as our Learning Management System (LMS). Canvas is a web-based learning management system that gives instructors, students, and parents access to view and manage online course learning materials.
Additionally, the system empowers instructors, students, and parents to communicate about skill development and learning achievement.
Visit our website for more detailed information about Canvas, including:
How to set up an account
How students can set up a pairing code for a parent or guardian (get started with instructions on how to set up a pairing code here)
What you can and cannot do with Canvas
How to download the app
We also use Powerschool to display student grades and attendance.
While Canvas provides an interactive view of what is currently being assigned and submitted in a given class, PowerSchool publishes grades and attendance when that information has been finalized and submitted by the instructor. We encourage all parents and students to log into PowerSchool regularly to review these items.
More information about Powerschool and how to set up your account can be found on our website here. Please note that if you are already using PowerSchool at your student's associate district, you will need to create a new account for DACC using a different email address than the email address you are already using for your existing account.
