Suicide Prevention & Awareness Training

We want to inform you about an upcoming event at Delaware Area Career Center aimed at promoting the safety and well-being of our students.

From September 29 – October 7, DACC, in collaboration with HelpLine of Delaware & Morrow Counties, will be conducting suicide prevention and awareness training for students. The program, Question. Persuade. Refer (QPR), is evidence-based and focuses on equipping students with the knowledge to recognize signs of suicide risk in their peers. It also provides information on where to seek help when needed.

In addition, our Student Services Department will facilitate NAMI – Ending the Silence. This program, developed by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), helps students learn to recognize the warning signs of mental health conditions and understand how to seek support for themselves or a friend. It empowers students to reduce stigma, build empathy, and connect to trusted adults and available resources.

In March 2021, the Ohio General Assembly passed House Bill 123, also known as the SAVE (Safety and Violence Education) Students Act. This legislation mandates that school districts annually provide evidence-based instruction on suicide prevention and awareness for grades 6–12.

During the 7 days in September, DACC students will participate in a single, 45-minute training session scheduled during their lab time.

If you prefer that your student does not participate in the suicide prevention and awareness training, please complete this form. DACC will provide a supervised area for students not participating.

Our top priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, and we believe this training will help foster a supportive and secure environment for everyone.

She led students in a fun meet-and-greet activity, highlighted the benefits of participating in CTSOs, and gave away SkillsUSA merchandise as prizes.

Officer elections will be held in September, launching a year of leadership opportunities, hands-on activities, and competitions at the local, regional, state, and national levels.

Academic Hybrid Fridays

On Hybrid Fridays, students will not attend their Academic classes in person. Instead, they will complete assignments online at their own pace. This model encourages students to take ownership of their learning in a flexible, real-world format. This innovative approach supports the development of essential 21st-century skills such as digital literacy, independence, and time management, while also opening the door for expanded work-based learning opportunities.

Here is a comprehensive FAQ about the program.

Illness Procedure

At DACC, we prioritize the well-being and academic success of our students. If a student feels unwell after they have already arrived on campus, we encourage them to visit the clinic, where our healthcare professional will provide care and support. In the event that a student needs to go home, we will personally contact a parent or guardian to arrange this. The student will then be able to leave directly from the clinic as soon as their ride arrives, streamlining the process for everyone.

We kindly ask that students refrain from directly contacting parents to pick them up during school hours. This approach ensures minimal disruption to classes and allows our teachers to maintain an effective learning environment. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this collaborative effort to support our students' health and education.

Canvas and PowerSchool

Canvas

At DACC, we are using Canvas as our Learning Management System (LMS). Canvas is a web-based learning management system that gives instructors, students, and parents access to view and manage online course learning materials.

Additionally, the system empowers instructors, students, and parents to communicate about skill development and learning achievement.

Visit our website for more detailed information about Canvas, including:

  • How to set up an account

  • How students can set up a pairing code for a parent or guardian (get started with instructions on how to set up a pairing code here)

  • What you can and cannot do with Canvas

  • How to download the app

PowerSchool

We also use PowerSchool to display student grades and attendance.

While Canvas provides an interactive view of what is currently being assigned and submitted in a given class, PowerSchool publishes grades and attendance when that information has been finalized and submitted by the instructor. We encourage all parents and students to log into PowerSchool regularly to review these items.

More information about PowerSchool and how to set up your account can be found on our website here. Please note that if you are already using PowerSchool at your student's associate district, you will need to create a new account for DACC using a different email address than the email address you are already using for your existing account.

Attendance and Transportation

Regardless of the first day of school in your home district, transportation will be running from the home schools to DACC beginning August 13th.

If you know in advance that your child will be absent or tardy, fill out the Absence Form found on our website or the homepage of the DACC app.

See our Attendance FAQ for more information as well as calendars to all of our home schools and contact information for home school transportation departments.
