Summer is a great time for students to take meaningful steps toward their future after high school. Whether planning for college, a career, or both, these simple actions can help your student feel confident and prepared for their senior year. |
|
|
Suggested Summer To-Do List: |
|
|
|
-
Visit college campuses
Summer is an ideal time to explore potential colleges. Encourage your student to visit campuses and explore admissions information on each college’s website (look for sections labeled Campus Visits or Visitor Information).
- Research college options
Students should begin building a list of colleges they are interested in. The Common Application opens August 1, so planning now is helpful. Tools like BigFuture can assist with exploring options and comparing schools.
-
Start thinking about college essays.
Students can get a head start by reviewing common essay topics and brainstorming ideas over the summer.
-
Gain real-world experience
A summer job, job shadow, or volunteer role helps students build skills and strengthen their resume. Job search platforms like Indeed can be a helpful starting point.
-
Complete the Ohio Means Jobs Readiness Seal
DACC encourages all students to complete the Ohio Means Jobs Readiness Seal prior to graduation. This seal recognizes employability skills and can be earned through work, volunteer, or extracurricular experiences. Summer is a great time to get started or finish the requirements.
-
Be ready for a great senior year!
Taking steps now helps students return in August prepared for a successful and exciting final year.

As the school year draws to a close here at the Delaware Area Career Center (DACC), we want to inform you that your student may have money left on their school lunch account. We are grateful for your continued support of our school lunch program, which has enabled us to provide nutritious meals to our students throughout the year.
To check the status to date of your student's lunch balance, you can log onto www.payschoolscentral.com. This will give you a complete overview of the balance and transaction history of your student's lunch account.
We are pleased to announce that anyone with more than $20 remaining on their graduating senior's lunch account will automatically receive a check in the mail after the school year ends. This means that you do not need to take any action to receive the refund.
For those with a graduating senior and less than $20 remaining on their lunch account, you have two options:
You can choose to leave the funds in your account, after June 30, 2026, these funds will be considered a donation to support DACC’s student assistance program.
You can request a refund by emailing the Christopher Bell, Delaware Area Career Center Treasurer at bellc@delawareareacc.org with your home address. Mr. Bell will process your request and mail the refund check to you.
If your student does not plan on returning, let me know and you can use one of the options above.

~ Not New But Worth Review ~ |

On Hybrid Fridays, students will not attend their Academic classes in person. Instead, they will complete assignments online at their own pace. This model encourages students to take ownership of their learning in a flexible, real-world format. This innovative approach supports the development of essential 21st-century skills such as digital literacy, independence, and time management, while also opening the door for expanded work-based learning opportunities.
Here is a comprehensive FAQ about the program.

At DACC, we prioritize the well-being and academic success of our students. If a student feels unwell after they have already arrived on campus, we encourage them to visit the clinic, where our healthcare professional will provide care and support. In the event that a student needs to go home, we will personally contact a parent or guardian to arrange this. The student will then be able to leave directly from the clinic as soon as their ride arrives, streamlining the process for everyone.
We kindly ask that students refrain from directly contacting parents to pick them up during school hours. This approach ensures minimal disruption to classes and allows our teachers to maintain an effective learning environment. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this collaborative effort to support our students' health and education.

At DACC, we are using Canvas as our Learning Management System (LMS). Canvas is a web-based learning management system that gives instructors, students, and parents access to view and manage online course learning materials.
Additionally, the system empowers instructors, students, and parents to communicate about skill development and learning achievement.
Visit our website for more detailed information about Canvas, including:
|
We also use PowerSchool to display student grades and attendance.
While Canvas provides an interactive view of what is currently being assigned and submitted in a given class, PowerSchool publishes grades and attendance when that information has been finalized and submitted by the instructor. We encourage all parents and students to log into PowerSchool regularly to review these items.
More information about PowerSchool and how to set up your account can be found on our website here. Please note that if you are already using PowerSchool at your student's associate district, you will need to create a new account for DACC using a different email address than the email address you are already using for your existing account.
