DACC Students and Parents/Guardians,

During this busy time of year, we want to pause for a moment and let you know how proud we are of our DACC students. The end of the semester can be stressful, but what we have seen from our students is perseverance, creativity, and collaboration. Last week, many of our students took a courageous step to leave the familiarity of school and spend their day shadowing an industry professional. These experiences help our students become more confident in the path they are creating for their future and provide greater clarity on how they can achieve their dreams.

We're grateful to the business partners who hosted our students and we're looking forward to providing more college and career exploration opportunities.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call us at 740-548-0708.

SkillsUSA

On November 20th and 21st, eleven DACC student officers participated in the SkillsUSA Fall Leadership Conference (FLC) in Columbus, Ohio. This annual event brings together more than 1,000 students from across the region to develop leadership skills, explore industry pathways, and strengthen their involvement in SkillsUSA.

Throughout the conference, our students took part in a variety of breakout sessions covering topics such as career coaching, industry panel discussions, Leadership 101, time and project management, networking, and more.

The FLC also serves as the venue for Regional Officer elections each school year. DACC was proudly represented by three qualified candidates, all of whom delivered strong speeches and demonstrated exceptional professionalism. Although none advanced beyond the first round, each student gained valuable experience that will support their continued growth as leaders.

We are proud of our students’ efforts and the way they represented DACC at this impactful event.

For more information on SkillsUSA and other Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSO's) - please contact your student's program instructor.

Academic Hybrid Fridays

On Hybrid Fridays, students will not attend their Academic classes in person. Instead, they will complete assignments online at their own pace. This model encourages students to take ownership of their learning in a flexible, real-world format. This innovative approach supports the development of essential 21st-century skills such as digital literacy, independence, and time management, while also opening the door for expanded work-based learning opportunities.

Here is a comprehensive FAQ about the program.

Illness Procedure

At DACC, we prioritize the well-being and academic success of our students. If a student feels unwell after they have already arrived on campus, we encourage them to visit the clinic, where our healthcare professional will provide care and support. In the event that a student needs to go home, we will personally contact a parent or guardian to arrange this. The student will then be able to leave directly from the clinic as soon as their ride arrives, streamlining the process for everyone.

We kindly ask that students refrain from directly contacting parents to pick them up during school hours. This approach ensures minimal disruption to classes and allows our teachers to maintain an effective learning environment. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this collaborative effort to support our students' health and education.

Canvas and PowerSchool

At DACC, we are using Canvas as our Learning Management System (LMS). Canvas is a web-based learning management system that gives instructors, students, and parents access to view and manage online course learning materials.

Additionally, the system empowers instructors, students, and parents to communicate about skill development and learning achievement.

Visit our website for more detailed information about Canvas, including:

  • How to set up an account
  • How students can set up a pairing code for a parent or guardian (get started with instructions on how to set up a pairing code here)
  • What you can and cannot do with Canvas
  • How to download the app

We also use PowerSchool to display student grades and attendance.

While Canvas provides an interactive view of what is currently being assigned and submitted in a given class, PowerSchool publishes grades and attendance when that information has been finalized and submitted by the instructor. We encourage all parents and students to log into PowerSchool regularly to review these items.

More information about PowerSchool and how to set up your account can be found on our website here. Please note that if you are already using PowerSchool at your student's associate district, you will need to create a new account for DACC using a different email address than the email address you are already using for your existing account.

Attendance and Transportation

Regardless of the first day of school in your home district, transportation will be running from the home schools to DACC beginning August 13th.

See our Attendance FAQ for more information as well as calendars to all of our home schools and contact information for home school transportation departments.
